StopSlop is a Chrome extension that runs inside your signed-in X session. This note says what stays in your browser, what leaves it and why, in the order it happens.
In your browser
Topic labels, the posts you hid or reopened, repeat counts, translations, your topic choices and your reading persona are stored in a SQLite database inside your Chrome profile. Nothing syncs to an account. Removing the extension removes it.
StopSlop reads your X session only to tell which account is signed in (the public user id in X's twid cookie and your handle), so that the account you confirmed in the guide is the only one it works for. It never reads, stores or sends your password, auth_token or any other session cookie.
The labeling service
Topic labels, model translation and the persona come from a small server we run (gardener.zhida.dev) and the model providers behind it. Requests start only after you confirm your account and the content-processing permission in the guide. Each label request carries the post text, the author handle and, for image-only posts, the photo thumbnails; a translation request carries the post text; a persona request carries short excerpts of posts you acted on, and only when you press Generate. Your handle, an installation identifier and your timezone identify the account. Labels are cached locally, so a post is sent once.
Anonymous usage statistics
To learn whether StopSlop is installed, set up and still used, the extension sends a few events to PostHog (a product-analytics service, US region) under a random installation id it generates itself:
- installed, updated, uninstalled (the uninstall page on this site records it);
- the guide's step changes, the account confirmation, the guide's completion;
- a connected account and a generated persona, as events without content;
- once a day: the number of posts folded in the last seven days, how many topics are hidden, and whether persona, translation and repeat folding are on.
No event carries your handle, your account id, a post, a label, a translation or your topic choices. Each event names the extension version. The switch Share anonymous usage statistics in the side panel stops all of it, including the uninstall event.
This website records a page view and download clicks the same way, under a random visitor id kept in your browser's local storage. It sets no cookies.
Nothing acts for you
StopSlop has no automatic liking, posting, following, reposting or messaging. The only action that touches X is the optional “Not interested” button, and only when you press it.
